Getting to Sarawak Air
Sarawak is served by Kuching International Airport which has direct flights to major Malaysian towns as well as foreign cities. You could take flights to / from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Perth, and Hong Kong. Direct flights are available from Kuala Lumpur to Miri and Sibu (two Sarawak towns), from Johor Bahru to Kuching, and from Kota Kinabalu and Labuan to Kuching and Bintulu (a Sarawak town). Malaysia Airline System (MAS) and AirAsia are two major airlines serving Sarawak.
Road
Road network links Sarawak to all major towns of Malaysia.
Getting Around Sarawak Road
Road network connects various towns and villages together. Trans-Borneo highway links Kuching to all major towns in Sarawak. Kucing to Sibu by bus takes around 6 hours. Sri Aman to Kuching takes about 4 hrs by bus. Keep in mind that Kuching does not have a bus terminal. Where you catch the bus from depends on your destination and company services you take.
Express Boats
You could take express boats from Kuching to Sibu and vice versa. Express Bahagia and Sejahtera Pertama are two express boat services.
Sampans
Sampans, locally known as Tambangs, are small ferries which connect riverside kampungs to Kuching town. You could hire sampans for having a boat ride in the river and looking at waterfront hamlets.
Car Rental & Taxis
For exploring Kuching and Sarawak, hiring a car is the best way. Several tour operators offer chauffeur-driven vehicles. For transport from airport to the town you could take taxis. They don’t use meter. So you are advised to settle on the fare first.
