Poyottha Vinaayagar TempleExplore the charms of the town during your Melaka travel or vacations.

St Paul’s Church and Fortress
These colonial monuments remind us of the Portuguese rule over Melaka. Oldest colonial remains in the city, these are located up the stairs from the Stadthuys on Bukit St Paul in Old Melaka. Steps would take you from St Paul’s to a collection of ruins. Here you would see the Portuguese A’ Famosa Fortress. The citadel once held as many as five churches and palaces among other grand buildings. Today the only structure which remains is one of its gates, the Porta de Santiago.

Museum of Melakan History and Ethnography
Housed in the former Town Hall of Melaka, the museum offers intriguing exhibits of old coins, Melakan porcelain, objects from early Melakan history and conventional bridal costumes. The museum is located near Christ Church.

Sri Poyyatha Vinayagar Temple
Built in the late 18th century, this temple is built by Melaka’s Chitty community. The temple is a tribute to Malaysia’s multi-cultural society. The temple is located on Ji Tokong Emas.

Cheng Hoon Teng Chinese Temple
Earliest Buddhist shrine in Malaysia, the temple is the centre of community life for the Chinese diaspora in Melaka. The ornate structure is covered by several sculptures made of broken glass and porcelain. The chandeliers enhance the elegance of the temple. The three altars symbolize the doctrines of Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism. The temple is located on Ji Tokong.

Melaka River
You will enjoy the boat trip in the river. The trip will enable you to see downtown Melaka. Typical Malay kampong house on stilts and sampans will intrigue you.

Cultural Museum
Housed in a building which resembles Melaka’s Sultanate Palace, the Cultural Museum exhibits dioramas on the Sultan’s life and Melakan photographs, clothing and arms. The museum is located at the foot of St Paul’s Hill, on Ji Parameswara.

Maritime Museum
Maritime Museum, on Ji Laksamana, is housed in a building which resembles a Portuguese ship which sank off the coast. The museum showcases model ships of different origins as well as old sea charts and instruments. The museum offers glimpses into Melaka’s history as an active trading port.
