Where is Malaysia? Malaysia, a country in South-East Asia, is located between lattitudes 1 and 7 in the northern hemisphere and longitudes 100 and 104. Having thirteen states and three federal territories, Malaysia occupies the area of 329,847 square kilometers. Thailand borders Malaysia in the north and Singapore in the south. It is segregated from Indonesia by the Straits of Melaka in the West and from East Malaysia by the South China Sea in the East.



Geographical co-ordinates of Malaysia are 2 30 N, 112 30 E. Land boundaries run for 2,669 km while the coastline is 4,675 km. The territorial sea is 12 nautical miles while the exclusive economic zone is 200 nautical miles. The country is strategically located along Strait of Malacca and southern South China Sea.

The country has tropical climate. As for the landscape, it has coastal plains rising to hills and mountains. The highest point in Malaysia is Gunung Kinabalu (4,100m). Natural resources found in Malaysia are tin, petroleum, timber, copper, iron ore, natural gas and bauxite.
